StAnza: Take Part
The StAnza organisation is regularly approached by poets, writers and other artists, or by their publishers or agents, to enquire about taking part in future StAnza festivals. Please note that the planning process for each StAnza festival begins approximately 18 months in advance and such approaches should be made with this timescale in mind.
We regret that we are not able to consider for inclusion in future festivals any poet who has not already had published at least one full collection or one chapbook/pamphlet collection. Poets and writers who wish to be considered, or their publishers or agents, should submit a copy of their most recent collection, together with information on previous readings, performances or festival appearances. Further, we would ask that, wherever possible, a sound recording of the poet reading his/her poems, in the form of DVD, CD, video, or cassette tape, be submitted as well as printed material. The best way to find out what kind of material and events we feature at StAnza is to attend a festival.
Work submitted is considered by the StAnza Directors and the Reading Sub-Committee on an on-going basis. Submitted material, if considered suitable by the Directors, will be circulated around the Reading Sub-Committee, who will from time to time make recommendations to the Directors and Planning Committee of poets and writers who might be suitable for future festival themes or events. The Directors and the Planning Committee may or may not follow the recommendations made.
Artists in any medium wishing to be considered for inclusion in a StAnza festival must demonstrate that their work includes elements directly related to poetry. We are able to consider work which incorporates poetical text, is a collaboration with a poet or poets, or addresses issues directly connected with poetry. Artists should, in the first instance, submit a proposal for consideration by the Directors and the StAnza Visual Arts Officer.
StAnza is also able to consider approaches by musicians (in any genre) wishing to participate in the festival. As above, their work must be directly related to poetry. It is not sufficient that such work includes lyrics or sung text. We are only able to consider approaches from musicians who work directly with poets or whose practice involves working with poetry or in a poetry-related context. Musicians, or their agents or recording companies, should submit recordings of any work they wish to have considered for inclusion in a StAnza festival, together with information on previous performances with particular reference to poetry.
Those submitting work should be aware that the consideration process takes a good deal of time. We regret we are unable to acknowledge or return material submitted, or to notify those submitting unless and until we are able to offer them an appearance at StAnza. Please do not send material in the form of email attachments unless requested to do so.
